1. Create a strong 'group' in which people feel they truly belong.

2. Instill an 'us' vs 'them' mentality.

3. Bring in the public as final arbiters.

What does this have to do with anything?? Not much, but it made more sense posted here than anywhere else......What is everyone up to???

Making Proportional Representation a Reality

One of Canada's most famed activists, Mr. Marc Emery, helped fund an effort to bring proportional representation to Canada. Sadly, his efforts failed, but I would like to take a stab at this issue....

There are three major problems facing proportional representation in Canada.

1. Federalism and Regional Alienation - There is a conception that many Canadians would lose representation in a proportional system. The oldest argument against PR in Canada is that 'the country is too big' so where would the representatives come from? This argument can be solved through the adoption of a provincially based PR system....

2. No major party supports proportional representation. This must change! Personally, I would suspect that the Green Party would salivate if they became aware of sizeable community support for such a measure.

3. The media ignores the issue.

The most pressing issue is #3, however, I have an idea for changing this - we just need some more bodies (especially in Eastern Canada). pen_on_paper will join this when she sees it and I suspect that she has a number of people who could help us out there.

I'm not sure what I think of this layout, but here we are....

The Animal Farm started off as an idea for a new political party that haunting_love and I had. While the vast majority of the content will primarily relate to Canadians, we encourage all people, regardless of where you are from to join up and share your ideas for 'utopia'....
